A Runner’s Hi

We are at our best when we cheer each other on and build each other up.

~Taylor Swift

I’ve often seen you running

In the early morning dawn.

Your pace is very steady

And you very soon are gone.

Sometimes, I’ve also seen you

In the fading evening light.

You nod your head to say hello

And then are gone from sight.

It’s always good to see you

On my solitary run.

Your presence has a lot to do

With just how far I’ve come.

Perhaps you might remember this —

The day was very hot.

You were running very well.

But, sadly, I was not!

We were running up a hill

One I’d never tried.

You started way behind me

But we soon were side by side.

You nodded your familiar nod

And said, “Go on, don’t stop!”

You slowed your pace and ran with me

Until I reached the top.

I don’t know much about you

And we don’t have much to say,

But I think that you should know

You share the best part of my day!
