About the Author
Michael Löwy, born in Brazil in 1938, has lived in Paris since 1969. Presently he is research director emeritus at the National Center for Scientific Research. His books and articles have been translated into twenty-eight languages. He is a coauthor, with Joel Kovel, of the International Ecosocialist Manifesto (2001). Among his main publications: Fire Alarm: Reading Walter Benjamin’s “On the Concept of History” (London: Verso, 2005), The Theory of Revolution in the Young Marx (Chicago: Haymarket Books, 2009), On Changing the World: Essays in Political Philosophy, from Karl Marx to Walter Benjamin (Chicago: Haymarket Books, 2012); and Ecosocialisme : Une alternative radicale à la catastrophe écologique capitaliste (Paris: Fayard, 2012).
