Cozy-looking carving carries
symbols of Christmas
By Dave Francis
I
t’s so much fun to be able to take
a little piece of plain wood and
within a few hours give it character
and a story. This is a small project,
but the elements you would use on
a larger piece are all here, just in a
smaller scale. Once you carve this
Santa, use it as a starting point to
design your own Santa.
Start by transferring the side
view of the pattern to the blank.
Sand the bottom smooth and cut
off the waste wood with a band saw
or hand saw. Clamp the blank in a
bench vise if possible.
