Part 15

Sofia mustered all the strength she could put together in her as the Furfur charged towards her daughter.  She groaned, pulling herself together and then raised Wanda up in her arms. She pushed Wanda up slightly and rolled her daughter above the wall to the other side. The baby dropped on the other side of the fence, crying incessantly as her little body touched the ground.

In that instant, Wanda disappeared from the sight of the Night Furfur, and the demon became totally confused. It stopped its sudden rush to attack Wanda. Shook its head left and right, and then took two steps back. It narrowed its vision, looking left and right, but it could not see the little child anymore; neither did it understand how come Wanda had suddenly vanished from its sight.

The Furfur went towards Sofia, who was no longer afraid. She could see the demon was confused and wanted Wanda no matter what, but now it wouldn't get Wanda. It looked down at Sofia in anger, and their eyes met.

This time, Sofia managed a smile, although she was breathing hard from the pains. The fear in her had disappeared because she knew the creature could only kill her but couldn't touch her daughter.

“You shall not get my daughter,” Sofia said boldly. She could genuinely see what Marcus had said; the compound was sealed with the Vitrians' praying powers, no demon could see inside the compound, nor go through the walls.

The creature pressed its right leg's talons with the jacket stuck in it into Sofia's right shoulder. It dragged Sofia to the top of the half-wall, and Sofia screamed with the drag. The Furfur made some sounds in a language that Sofia could not understand, but Sofia could guess what the thing wanted. It wanted Sofia to grab Wanda and pull her out of the compound.

Sofia screeched in pain and turned, hearing Wanda's loud cry. She knew Wanda was alive, although she might have been hurt from the fall over the fence.

“Never!” Sofia said, looking back towards the creature. “I would rather die than give my daughter to you.”

The Furfur made the sounds again and pressed its talons deeper into Sofia's shoulder as she laid on the edge of the wall.

“Not even in death will I hand her over to you.” Sofia was full of confidence regardless of the excruciating pain she felt, knowing she probably would not survive but that her child would. The jacket Sofia had on before was still stuck in the foot of the Furfur. The jacket covered Sofia's body as the Furfur pressed its talons into her shoulder.

In anger the Furfur withdrew its talons out of Sofia's body. In excruciating pain, Sofia's body followed the claws as the Furfur lifted its leg to pull the talons out. The talons finally came out, and Sofia's body dropped onto the edge of the wall again. Then, with a greater force, Sofia watched as the big talons came down towards her again, and this time they came for her neck for a final kill.
