Penny Hayes was born in Johnson City, N.Y. February 10, 1940. As a child she lived on a farm near Binghamton, N.Y. She later went to school in Utica and Buffalo, graduating with degrees in art and special education. She has made her living teaching most of her adult life, in both West Virginia and New York State.
A resident of Ithaca., N.Y., she lives with her lover of five years. Her interests include backpacking, mountain climbing, canoeing, traveling and early American history.
She has been published in I Know You Know and various backpacking magazines. The Long Trail is her first novel and she is hard at work on her second.
