Act Three

“Get up, move, you can’t stay still.”

I don’t want to hear the voice. I know the voice. It’s my aunt. Her name is Barbara, and she lives on an island.

“Stand up, move your feet, walk.”

She is the mother of my friend Ethie. She’s my aunt. My friend Ethie is my cousin.

“You’re making up stories. Ethie is not my story, she’s your story.”

You lost a baby.

“I never lost a baby. It was never a baby.”

But she’s my cousin. She’s your daughter. She’s helping me to find my brother.

“She’s not mine, she’s yours. Ask her to take you to the bridge. You must keep moving.”

I want to find my brother. I want to see Danny.

“Go to the bridge. Get up. Move.”

I can’t smell you anymore.

I don’t want to hear you.

I want to lie still.
