Ponant

This ship has French chic for discovering destinations in stylish comfort

The Ship. Le Laperouse (sister to Le Champlain) is designed to take you to some the more remote areas of the planet in comfort. The shape is similar to the larger general-purpose ‘yacht’-style Ponant ships, but with an open (trawler) stern that provides access to the marine equipment and acts as a landing platform.

This expedition-style ship has some premium contemporary touches in its interiors. What’s really impressive – and different – is seating under the sea! It’s in an underwater lounge called the ‘Blue Eye.’

The interior design is quite practical, but the ship feels a little closed-in and cramped due to the low ceiling heights. Public rooms include a Panorama Lounge, Main Lounge, a Theatre/Lecture Room, and the aforementioned ‘Blue Eye’ lounge.

If you are looking for sophisticated facilities in a relaxed but chic, French, yacht-like environment – quite different to most large cruise ships – with decent food, and friendly, informal service, then Le Laperouse should fit the bill.

Accommodation. There are numerous accommodation price grades. The price you pay depends on the size, location, and grade you choose. From the smallest interior cabin(no view) to the largest suite, all are comfortable, and many have balconies.

Dining. The restaurant, located aft, is cheerful, and has both indoor and outdoor seating.

Entertainment. Movies are shown in the theater.

Spa/Fitness. The Yacht Spa facilities include a fitness room with starboard-side ocean views, a kinetic wall, and a steam room with shower, but no changing room. A range of massage and body treatments are provided by Sothys, whose staff operates the facility.
