Scenic

This ship is designed specifically for in-depth ‘soft’ expedition adventures

The Ship. This smart-looking specialist expedition ship – designed from the ground up to operate in Arctic and Antarctic regions – and described by Scenic as ‘the world’s first discovery yacht’ – is powered by Azipods, marine propulsion units that provide ample operational flexibility.

The ship carries a ROV (submersible, remotely operated vehicle – for extra-cost use), has underwater cameras, and a helicopter. A fleet of Zodiacs and kayaks are also on board, plus scuba-diving and snorkeling equipment.

Public rooms include an observation lounge, library, and lecture theater. At the time this book was completed, few details of the expedition leaders had been announced, but these will be vitally important to the success of the ship, which is launching in 2018.

Accommodation. There are numerous accommodation price grades, but all are designated as suites (all with butler service). The price you pay depends on the size, location, and grade you choose. From the largest owner’s suites to the smallest, they all feature contemporary design and fittings. However, for expedition-style cruises, you won’t be in your cabin much, because of the destination-immersive nature of the voyages.

Dining. There are several dining options (all at no extra cost), which include a French fine-dining venue, an Italian/Steak restaurant, and a pan-Asian eatery.

Entertainment. The Theatre is the venue for expedition lectures, and small revue shows.

Spa/Fitness. The ship has the Spa Sanctuary with wellness facilities, gym, exercise studio for yoga and Pilates, and indoor and outdoor pools.
