By the time Jakobe parked his car, he had his anger slightly under control. He wasn’t in mind for revenge. His desire to know why, was what was pushing him on. After the app showed that Nakida was somewhere nestled within the Hyatt, he had experienced a range of emotions. One of them being shock and pain. Why would she run to this place to get away from him? What had he done wrong? He knew no one would question his presence as he glided into the cool lobby as the double doors slid open before him. He pretended to be reading a text message on his cell as he followed the red blimp up the stairs.

Stopping at the seventh floor, he opened the door and walked out until he found her room. He fumbled in his suit jacket, as if he was looking for his room key, until the elevator door down the hall closed. Quickly, he shoved his cell into his pants pocket, pulled out the small laptop, flicked it on, and attached the USB cord to it. There was also a plain white card attached. He slipped the card into the place where a room key would sit, and went to work.

In a matter of seconds, the system on his computer burned him a fake key, giving him entrance to her room. He disconnected the laptop, and placed it back into the pocket in his suit jacket. He quietly opened the door. Just as he had expected, she had the golden latch on the door. Going into his pants pocket, he produced a thin hook, slid it into the door, and pushed back the lock. He took a deep breath before he walked in, letting the door slam shut behind him.

Nakida jumped at the sound. Like a pale rider, Jakobe strolled into the room. A loud scream escaped her lips before she could quiet it with her hand.

“Don’t move,” he grunted, pointing a finger at her as his gaze scanned the room.

“No, no,” she shouted as she stumbled to her feet.

He narrowed his eyes. He turned his head toward the bathroom he had dismissed on his way into the interior of the room. He growled as he doubled back, kicking the door open. It was too quiet. The room was too still. She began to pick up her things in an attempt to flee while he was preoccupied in the bathroom, but just as she was getting ready to make a run for it, he walked slowly back into the room. The expression on his face sent a chill down her spine. She instantly dropped her shoes and purse. She backed into the corner with one hand over her stomach while she waved the other franticly in front of her.

“Please, please… don’t touch me. I’ll… I won’t say a thing to anybody. I… I promise, just please,” she cried. She was too frightened to see the pain that crossed his face at her reaction of seeing him there. He understood her reasons, but that fact did nothing to stop the wrenching effect of seeing her cower before him. He wanted to go to her. He wanted to hold her. He wanted to let her know that he wasn’t like the other motherfucker. However, at the state she was in, he was afraid she would end up doing harm to herself, in her attempt of getting away from him. He nodded his head, slowly. He needed her to calm down.

“I’ll just stay right here, okay?” he promised in a hushed tone. He could tell that she didn’t believe him, by the way her brown eyes were attuned to his slightest movement. He tilted his head to listen to the voices coming from her laptop. A wicked grin spread across his lips.

“I knew you couldn’t wait for me to finish up the series,” he teased.

“Huh,” she remarked, confused before his meaning registered.

“I, umm…yeah, I didn’t have anything else to do, so…” she said in a hoarse voice.

“So, did the main chick find out about… then again, I don’t want to know,” he smiled, raising his hand up to stop her from answering.

“I can’t take you climbing the wall like that. Please, sit down,” he said at her hesitation. “Niki, I’m not here to hurt you.”

“I don’t believe you, and I... I’m keeping it. I’m not going—”

“I know, and I would never ask you to either,” he whispered, passionately. He eyed her while she danced back and forth on her feet. He wondered if she realized how she touched her belly while she considered his words.

“Okay, but you stay over there,” she pointed as she sat down at the top of the bed. Nakida watched him like a hawk, while he walked over to the chair in the corner of the room that was next to the balcony window. He sat down and was bathed in the sunlight.

“Congratulations,” he smirked.

“Thank you,” she laughed, warily. “I almost passed out from the shock.”

He couldn’t help but smile due to the goofy grin on her face. He turned to the desk in the room and began to line up the six pregnancy tests he had gathered from the bathroom.

“One test wasn’t good enough, I see,” he joked.

“I just couldn’t believe it. I still don’t.”

“I’m surprised you had that much pee,” he mumbled as he took in all the pink and blue lines. Hell, one even said ‘pregnant’ on the oval shaped screen.

“I drank a lot of water.”

She paused as her expression got serious.

“I didn’t plan this, I swear. I—”

“I know, Nakida. I know,” he sighed, looking at her finally. He leaned back in the uncomfortable chair. He would have preferred sitting next to her on the bed, but he wasn’t going to risk it.

“I’m to blame for this, actually.”

At her confused expression, he confessed.

“There were a few times that my timing was off, and I spilled in you before I was able to pull out.”

He wasn’t surprised by her lack of concern about his mistake. He had given her something that had been taken away from her in the cruelest of ways. He tapped his finger on his leg as he considered how to proceed from that point.

“You have no idea how drastically your life is going to change,” he whispered, sadly. Nakida bustled under the look in his blue eyes.

“If you think I can’t take care of this baby, then you’re crazy. I mean, I wish I had known last night that I was pregnant, but I won’t be doing that ever again. I’ll—”

‘That’s not what I’m talking about. I know you’ll kill any fool that tries to hurt our child.”

She noticed the slight widening of his eyes with his use of ‘our’ and ‘child’. It was a shock to his system for him to imagine a baby… his baby running around. A little bit of her fear oozed out of her body with his use of those terms.

“What is it?”

Jakobe sighed.

“My mother,” he groaned.

She gave him a deep eye roll.

“If she wants to see her grandchild, she’ll have to fall in line. If you know that won’t be the case, don’t tell her for a while and—”

“That’s a no go. You’re already on her radar after last night, believe me,” he chuckled. “I’m her only child, so she’s going to want this baby.”

“I can tell there’s more to this story,” she stated, narrowing her brown eyes. Jakobe studied his shoes for a second before he began to speak.

“I’m not clean, Nakida. I deal in some dangerous shit that could affect you and our baby. Surly, you picked up on that, the night I came to your sister’s house.”

A worried expression came upon her face for a moment, then it was gone. She squared her shoulders and lifted her head.

“I’m not killing this baby,” she responded, firmly.

“I’m talking drugs, guns, and porn. All these other businesses I own, are only ways to launder the money I take in. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

“I hear you, but did you hear me? I know how to take care of myself, so you need not worry, and if your mom is as fierce as you say she is, then I know she’ll take measures to ensure nothing happens.”

“Fuck her. She’s not the one anyone should worry about. It’s me that will be the lion in the room,” he swore. He leaned forward in his seat.

“Come home with me,” he whispered in the still room.

“No,” she snapped. Nakida plastered her back against the headboard at his swift movement when he got to his feet. He paused for a second as he glared at her. Jakobe kicked off his shoes angrily.

“Didn’t I say I wasn’t going to hurt you,” he grumbled. He jerked off his suit jacket. He opened his shirt, and undressed until he stood before her in just his tailored pants. He walked over to tower over her. He caressed her cheek with the back of his hand.

“Move over,” he commanded. He pushed her over with his body to make room for himself next to her on the bed.

He quickly gathered her in his arms to keep her from getting up.

“Have you eaten?”

“No, my stomach is too queasy for any of that.”

“Wow, already?” he stated in awe.

“Well, you need to still eat,” he growled, holding her closer. He loosened his grip a bit at her protest.

“Did the new captain get with the island female inspector?” he questioned as he waved at the paused show on her computer.

“No,” she replied with a shake of her head.

“Why the hell not? Shit, she was just about begging the old douchebag captain. I like the new guy 100 times better,” he complained.

Nakida laughed.

“Do you want to watch the episode?”

“Yes…please,” he grumbled.

She slipped out of his arms, pulled the laptop closer, and went back to the episode in question. They argued about “whodunit” while they made their way through Death in Paradise on Netflix. It was as if nothing had ever happened. Unable to help himself, Jakobe would roll over and kiss her, but he didn’t push her any further than that. Later, they ate pizza in bed while they laughed and teased each other. He tried to be honest with her when she questioned him about his business dealing. However, they were interrupted when she was hit with a wave of nausea.

He scooped her up in his strong arms to run her to the bathroom, as if she was too weak to get there on her own. He wiped her mouth gingerly between each wave. In spite of the fact that there were tears in her eyes due to the strain, her goofy grin never faltered. She was happy, if that was the word.

“I can’t leave you here like this. Come home with me,” he said, rubbing her back.

“I’ll be fine,” she promised.

“Don’t be crazy. You can stay in your room across the hall. That’s all the space you need,” he hissed.

“You can’t tell me what to—”

She wasn’t able to finish that statement before the food she had crammed down her throat came back up.

“I’ll stay with you tonight. If you don’t come to my place, then you need to go back home. I want to know where you are.”

“How did you know I was here, by the way?” she panted, trying to catch her breath.

“Just focus on breathing, Niki,” he replied, smoothly.

There was no way he was going to give up his feather in his cap by telling her that he had hacked her phone. He left the bathroom a few minutes later to allow her to shower. He didn’t trust himself around her in a state of undress. Unfortunately, his restraint was tested when she walked out of the bathroom nude. He worked his jaw as he grinded his teeth. He wanted her so bad. He reached over and picked up his wife beater tank top. He handed it to her before he turned away to stare outside the window at the lit-up city below. When he should have been admiring the view, he was watching her reflection in the mirror instead. He knew already that Nakida would be irresistible when she was heavy with child. He closed his eyes as the imagination of her larger breasts, wide hips, thicker ass, and stretched pussy took root in his mind.

“You can come lay down,” she offered.

“Are you sleeping in your pants?” she questioned, eyeing him.

“Yes.”

“But you’ll sleep better if you—”

“Drop it, and don’t look at me like that, please,” he groaned as he slipped into bed next to her.

“You don’t need to be shaken with us… you know,” he explained in a rush.

She smiled at Jakobe’s mixed feelings on the subject. She rolled over on her side to watch him. He ran his hands through his dark hair and sighed. He finally laid down to face her. She shook her head when he reached out for her.

“Do you really think that’s a good idea, with my lack of dress?”

“You have to get your shit together, Niki. I can’t go too many nights sleeping alone without you next to me,” he remarked in a deep voice. The tenor of his voice vibrated throughout her body. Jakobe sighed again at her lack of response before he rolled over unto his back. She stayed in that same spot long after he had fallen asleep. She admitted to herself for the thousandth time since being with him just how handsome he was. With his long lashes, full bottom lip, and his muscular tattooed body, the man was fine as hell, and he was here with her. Even after he found out that she was carrying his child, he stayed.

Nakida chewed her bottom lip. He wasn’t the only one that had grown accustomed to sleeping under him. The side of her bed felt cold and lonely, even with his presence. She shifted her weight, which caused Jakobe to stir. He strong arm automatically reached for her. She happily allowed him to drag her across the distance into his arms. Although she knew that he done so in his sleep and out of habit, she welcomed it. With a smile, she let her body melt into his as she breathed deeply of his manly scent.

The next morning, she awoke to find herself alone. From the temperature of the sheet, she could tell that he had been gone for a while. She rolled up onto her butt. That’s when she saw it in the chair he had positioned at the foot of the bed to ensure it caught her attention. She couldn’t help the warm feeling that his kind gesture created in her. Sometime, in the early morning, Jakobe had gone back to his place, picked up a fresh outfit, panties, accessories, makeup, her toiletries, and brought them back to the room for her. She crawled to the end of the bed to pick up the note he had placed on her clothes.

Have a great day, Niki. I heard somewhere that eating crackers helps with morning sickness, although u seem to be having ‘all day’ sickness. Just make sure to eat n take it easy. I’ll give u space, but u better believe I’ll be watching. Don’t keep me hanging for too long. ~Jakobe
