ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Professor Alan Male is an academic, editor, illustrator and writer. He directed the illustration programme at Falmouth University, leading it to gain an international reputation for excellence. He is now Emeritus Professor of Illustration and a keynote speaker on the international stage; he also has lectured throughout the United States. An authority on communication and cultural studies, professional practice, science and knowledge-bearing imagery, he contributes widely to debates across a range of journals, conferences, magazines and learned papers.
Male is the author of Illustration: Meeting the Brief (Bloomsbury, 2014) and editor of A Companion Guide to Illustration (Wiley Blackwell USA, 2018). He has worked across the advertising, creative and communication industries and illustrated more than 170 books. He has won numerous awards, among them Gold from the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles and a Texas ‘Bluebonnet’ for children’s books, and has exhibited internationally, including in New York State Museum’s permanent collection where he has won the critically acclaimed Focus on Nature Jury Award three times.
