Practice Speech: Same Speech, Two Audiences

Level: All

Time Limit: 3-5 minutes

Topic: Choose a topic, issue, or experience in which you have some expertise. If you have none, choose the drinking age.

Audience #1: The Kiwanis club closest to your house needs a speaker for their weekly meeting. They are trying to gain insight into people in their community.

Audience #2: The local YMCA has a community fair that young adults will attend to gather tips about life. You have been invited to present a session.

Instructions: Conduct a Primary Audience Analysis and Secondary Audience Analysis for both of these audiences.

Purpose: Examine how your Primary Audience Analysis questions illuminate why audiences need to be approached differently even with the same topic.

Example: Provided in the chapter between the Executive Group of Women and Juvenile Girls.
