The Voyage

(a parable)

They gathered at the shore and watched his ship sail away, watched until only one silver sail could be seen on the far horizon, and then that disappeared too. “He’s gone,” they cried, voices breaking, and some sobbed. “Too soon, too soon.”

But upon another shore, not so far distant, others waited and watched the distant horizon endlessly, until finally the tip of one silver sail could be seen above it.

“He’s coming,” they cried to one another, weeping tears of joy. “Our wait is over, he’s coming at last, at long last. He is coming home.”
