Chained Posts

WE THINK EVERYDAY CLASSIC STYLES deserve the statement treatment, too. These long, graceful earrings are lovely in a pair and slightly seductive on their own or in a higher earring hole. The trick to the sleek look of these earrings is using a bead or finding that has a top-drilled hole like these triangles. This allows you to slide a jump ring through the hole to attach it directly to the chain. A variation on this is to pick up a pair of studs that have a jump ring already attached to the setting. These are available preset with a variety of stones or metal balls.

MATERIALS

5 in/12 cm flat silver cable chain, 2 mm

4 small silver jump rings

2 silver top-drilled triangle beads, 6 mm wide × 6 mm long

2 butterfly earring backs

2 silver post findings with 3-mm-dia. pad

TOOLS

Ruler

Clippers

Chain-nose pliers

E-6000 glue

INSTRUCTIONS

1 Cut the cable chain in half.

2 Using the chain-nose pliers and a small jump ring, attach one end of the chain to the triangle bead.

3 Attach the other end of the chain to one of the loops in the butterfly back component.

4 Flip the triangle over so it’s wrong-side up on the work surface. Add a dab of E-6000 glue to the back of the triangle and place the pad of the earring post on it. Press firmly and hold in place until tacky.

5 Repeat steps 2–4 for the second earring.

6 Let the earrings dry overnight before wearing.
