Chapter 29. The Rich Man and the Widow

There once was a rich man near who lived a poor widow who had nothing except a cow that was quite well cared for.

The nice, fat cow was pleasing to the eye of the rich man, who ordered his servants to bring the cow to him, to butcher it and prepare it for his meal.

The man’s command was carried out and when the man sat down to the table, the beef roast was brought to him. He cut off a piece and put it in his mouth, but it stuck in his throat. The man choked on the meat and died. Quickly, the devil appeared and carried the man’s soul to hell.

The prophet says, “You should not steal or rob money from the poor, or you will be taken to hell and remain there for eternity if you do not pay penance before you die.”

So there you see how dangerous it is to rob others of their goods.
