- They are best remembered for their natural four-beat gait called the paso llano.
- Most horses require artificial aids to perform their walk but they can do well on their own. For this reason, they are often seen as arrogant animals.
- Due to their unique trot, they are protected by a Peruvian government Decree.
- They stand between 14 and 15 hands, have deep chests, have dark skin, and have expressive eyes.
