THE DISTRIBUTION of BET fleets around England and Wales was quite uneven with, for instance, a concentration of them in the South East, but none in East Anglia. They may be summarised area-wise as follows:

1. Greater London:

Timpson’s Coaches of Catford, including subsidiary Bourne & Balmer of Croydon.*

Red Line Tours.

Samuelson’s Coaches.*

2. South East:

Aldershot & District.

East Kent.

Maidstone & District, including subsidiaries Skinner’s Coaches and Scout Motors of Hastings.

Southdown, including subsidiaries Buck's Coaches of Worthing and Triumph Coaches of Southsea.

3. South West:

Black & White Motorways, Cheltenham.*

Devon General, including subsidiary Grey Cars.

Greenslades Tours.

4. Midlands:

City of Oxford Motor Services.

East Midland.

Midland Red (Birmingham & Midland Motor Omnibus Company).

Potteries Motor Traction (PMT).

Stratford Blue.

Trent Motor Traction.

5. North West:

North Western.

Ribble, including subsidiaries Scout and Standerwick.

6. North East:

East Yorkshire.

It is noteworthy that no BET fleets were based in East Anglia or in North Wales. Operators marked * were not wholly owned by British Electric Traction who, however, had a majority shareholding in them.
