CHAPTER 56

MAGGIE GOT READY FOR SCHOOL in record time. It had been a really long while since she’d looked forward to school this much —especially on a Monday. She wasn’t alone anymore. Sure, Pancake had tried to be there for her ever since Jo ditched her. But now she had Robin Hood. And then there was Hudson, a handful of students, and even Mr. Cutter wearing red shoes. All of them reaching out to her. It was time she let down her guard and did some reaching back.

And she’d find out Robin Hood’s true identity. She’d make a game of it —and she was good at games. She’d get to know Hudson better too. She’d read him soooo wrong. Even when he’d realized how badly she’d misjudged him, he didn’t hold it against her. She needed a friend like that.

Today she’d see the disappointed faces of Kat and Alexa and Jo when they saw she was alive and well and wearing her red shoes. She was even looking forward to talking to Mr. Cutter about the site.

The site. Maggie glanced at the clock. She was a couple minutes ahead of schedule. Just enough to check. Robin Hood would never leave a clue as to his identity right there for everyone to see, but still . . .

OneInAMillionMaggie.com was gone.

Maggie stared at the screen. Should she still report it? She could give Mr. Cutter the printout, but what would it accomplish? Kat and Alexa and Jo would all swear they had nothing to do with it. Their word against hers. Reporting it now —after the site was gone —truly would be snitching. And pointless. Lovely.

A lonely feeling swept over her. With the site gone, she’d lost her only tie to Robin Hood. You’ll still find him, Maggie. Think positive, right? Yeah, right.

She had asked him for a clue. All she could hope for was that he’d deliver. Maybe she could convince Hudson and Pancake to help.
