CHAPTER 94
GIOVANNA STOOD ON THE TABLE and did a visual sweep of the empty cafeteria. Trays, trash, food, drinks —on the tables, the floors —everywhere. Like a tornado had hit the place.
The fire alarm stopped, leaving the room ghostly quiet. Suddenly this didn’t seem like the right place to end things after all. But if she didn’t do something fast, the cops would surround her and she’d have no choice.
She jumped off the table and ran for the D Hall exit. She checked to be sure nobody was outside the door, fired one bullet into the cafeteria ceiling, and slipped out of the cafeteria. By the time the police got to the cafeteria, she’d be gone, and she knew exactly where she wanted to finish this out.
