Lee Mathews’ Murder Maker Horror Writing Workshop/Residential Seminar – Short form

image

Legal name: Clarence “Renz” MacAvoy

Pen name: Brian Pratt

Preferred genre: Romance and Horror, just depends on my mood what WIP I choose at the time I’m writing.

Years of writing experience: Professionally 10. Scribbling in journals since I was a teenager.

Bestselling titles/awards attained: USA Today Bestselling Author, aiming for NYT once I am able to step away from my business. Currently contracted with Insanity Press/Burleson, Texas.

Number of published works to date: 20. I regularly publish a novel twice a year.

Employment: I am the CEO of MacAvoyage Enterprises, a tech company that specializes in home grown phone and tablet applications for small businesses.

Hobbies: When I am not working, I am writing or spending time with my family. My wife and I were unable to conceive children on our own so through in vitro fertilization our hope of having twins turned into quadruplets 11 years ago. My four children, Mike, Leo, Rafe and Donnie, are rather demanding when it comes to attention. Each child also has their own cat which helps keep them out of my hair: Stoker, a Bombay; Hemingway, he’s obviously a Hemingway cat; Huxley is a gray Tabby; and Dostoyevsky, an orange bobtail. My wife and our live-in nanny care for the children and when free time allows we try to do family activities.

Dietary preferences/restrictions: I have no dietary restrictions but I’m highly allergic to perfumed laundry detergent like Tide.

Writing goals: Less romance, more horror

Personal goals: I aim to hand over more of my day-to-day responsibilities with my company in due time so I can focus more on writing. It’s truly my outlet and I very much want to hone in on what the voices inside my head are saying.

In 500 words or less, tell Lee Mathews why you should be chosen to attend this once in a lifetime workshop:

Romance writing has always come easily for me; I’ve never had an issue with penning swoony males for the readers. But horror stories, on the other hand, have me intrigued...merging the two genres has sparked something inside of me. The satisfaction of a knife slashing through the main character and ripping them away from their loved one is extremely intriguing. This crafting ability is something I’m very eager to learn from the master himself.

One item you will bring to the workshop and why it is your chosen item (chosen authors will be stripped of all personal possessions, other than prescribed medications, at the door):

Clozapine is my only prescribed medication. I’ll be bringing a wooden mallard that sits on my desk when I am writing. It was my father’s and often provides inspiration to me. It’s also heavy.
