NORWOOD EDGE

OTLEY

5/10 RATING

Crossing the viaduct over the Lindley Wood Reservoir, the B6451 climbs up Norwood Edge in two distinct segments – a sharp, abrasive early section followed by a wonderfully smooth, sweeping, and gentle finale. The road begins by turning left away from the reservoir before kinking right into the toughest patch of climbing. The damaged surface is rough under the trees and this 16% stretch is long enough to make sure you feel the effort in your legs the rest of the way up. Once past that nasty early bit, the tree cover clears and the slope levels out as you approach a long left-hander that takes you into the Norwood Edge Plantation. The last of the tough gradient leads you to a car park on your left and from here it climbs gently. Twisting left and right, it eases just enough to allow a gradual rise in tempo all the way to the finish opposite a Forestry Commission track.
