FLEAK MOSS

GRINTON, RICHMOND

8/10 RATING

Fleak Moss kicks up hard at the start then levels out again, but as soon as you dare change to a larger gear it kicks up again – it’s impossible to find any rhythm. Like a set of tough intervals it’s effort, rest, effort, and it keeps hitting you until you come to a cattle grid. Once across you’re thankfully allowed a period of steady and consistent climbing, but it doesn’t last. After a small dip you’ll see what looks like a wall of tarmac. The closer you ride, the steeper it appears, so build as much momentum as you can and get ready to work hard. In reality this ramp is not as long or as hard as it first appears (thankfully). But then you come to the final corners… These bends contain the hardest climbing of the whole course – close to 20% in places. Eke your way to the top to enjoy scenery that rivals any in the Dales, or in England for that matter.
