White sangria

150ml/⅔ cup brandy, or apple brandy

150g/¾ cup caster/superfine sugar

1 lime

1 lemon

1 peach

100g/¾ cup blackberries

A bottle of dry white wine

Ice cubes

My most beloved Christmas drink here in England is mulled wine, but it would never work for an Australian Christmas. With the heat and humidity, a very different fruity, boozy drink is called for. This fits the bill perfectly.

Makes 8 glasses
1. Pour the brandy and sugar into a jug, and stir to dissolve. Slice the lime and lemon into thin rounds, remove any seeds, then add the slices to the jug. Muddle the citrus fruit in the brandy and sugar.

2. Stone and slice the peach. Add this to the jug along with the blackberries. Pour in the wine, stir, add ice, and serve.
