About the Author

Peter Malone is an Australian Catholic priest, a Missionary of the Sacred Heart. He studied at the Australian National University in Canberra for an arts degree in history and at the Gregorian University in Rome for a licentiate in theology.

After teaching in secondary schools and the seminary in Canberra, he taught in the Yarra Theological Union, part of the Melbourne College of Divinity, Old Testament Studies, Fundamental Theology. He also worked at the National Pastoral Institute and the Heart of Life Spirituality Centre in Melbourne, specializing in media studies as well as Australian theology.

He edited Compass, a review of topical theology, from 1971 to 1998.

He was elected president of OCIC (Organization Catholique du Cinema) in the Pacific in 1989 and served on the international board of OCIC until his election as world president in 1998. With the merger of OCIC and Unda, he became the first president of SIGNIS, the World Catholic Association for Communication (2001–2005). He now works for the cinema desk of SIGNIS.

He has reviewed films since 1968 and has published books and articles including The Film, Films and Values, Movie Christs and Antichrists, Can Movies Be a Moral Compass? and the Lights Camera Faith series. He edited Through a Catholic Lens: Religious Perspectives of Nineteen Film Directors from around the World.
