CHAPTER NINE

~~Daniel~~

What does a twin flame mean?” Makena asks as she examines the bracelet I put around her wrist. The one I bought after I met her. I kiss her fingers one by one and suck on her thumb. It is Monday morning. We stayed in bed the whole weekend making love.

Some people believe that at first a soul is created whole and then it is split into two. And then these two halves search for each other their whole lives. Some find each other in certain lifetimes, and others don’t.”

Oh, so like soul mates?” She asked. She is wearing one of my T-shirts, and my hand crawls up her soft thigh.

No, you can have many soul mates, but you only get one twin flame.”

I can’t believe these words are coming out of my mouth. My friends will never stop teasing me if they ever hear about this. Since I listened to the concept from the chatty shop attendant who sold me the bracelet, it stuck with me.

And you think I’m your twin flame?” Makena blinks her sexy cat eyes at me. She squirms as my hands moved inside her panties and I squeeze her juicy ass.

Well, I don’t know what love is and how to tell if you are in it. All I know is that the first time I saw this beautiful girl, I felt like I found my purpose in life. I saw my whole life before me.

I started thinking of the house we could live in, the children we could have…and I imagined her barefoot and pregnant.

Without a doubt.” I lick my lips, thinking of all the things I wanted to do right now. “Come here.”

I straddle her and fiddle with her panties' waistband and pull it till it makes a snapping sound on her bare soft skin.

I’m going to be late for class.” She tries to wiggle herself from my grasp.

It's eight, your class today begins at ten.” I pin her down.

Panties out of the way, I help her out of my shirt and tie her hands with it.

She arches her back as my lips make my way from her chest to her belly button. She moans as I kiss the crease between her waist and her thigh. I trail little kisses over the thigh, and she wiggles as she tries to position me between her legs. I chuckle.

I kiss the back of her knee, and she trembles.

I flick my tongue around her ankle, and she tries to free her hands.

I find my way back up her thigh, and she calms down.

My tongue finds her clit, and she lets out a loud moan.

She is dripping wet for me, and I lap on her juices.

Daniel,” She calls out as I plunge my tongue inside her, tasting the nectar between her soft folds. Her breathing grows laboured, her body trembles and she comes on my tongue.

I kiss my way up to her and untie her hands. Her chest is heaving, and her eyes are misted with tears. I kiss her eyelids and hold her.

“I want you on your hands and knees, baby,” I whisper.

She gets on her hands and knees, and her beautiful curvy ass is in the air for me. I take the last condom from the drawer and roll it on my throbbing hard dick.

I slip into her already wet core, and we groan. I slam into her until my balls brush her clit.

I want to be as deep inside her as much as I can be. I roll her hair into my fist as I move faster. Her knees almost buckle, but she holds on. She is mine, mine alone and when she leaves my house this morning, I want her to remember it.

I spank her, and she moans as her tight walls collapse around me. I groan as I empty myself inside her. She has stolen my soul. That I am sure of.

We lay side by side, panting and sweaty.

Again,” She says.

***

An hour later, after dropping Makena to class, I go home to see my mother. She has been calling me all morning.

I dread going home.

Mom only wants to see me when she wants to rant about one of her friends. Or ask me when I will stop playing rugby, become serious with life and help my big brother Luther with Ogana Industries.

When I get to the house, my shoulders grow heavier. I vow this will not be the case with my children. They will always look forward to coming home.

The sitting room the furniture is now green and the rugs are purple. She is always changing her things—feng shui this and feng shui that.

Mom.”

Here, Danny,” She calls from her home office.

As I leave the living room, I think maybe I should bring Makena home for Sunday brunch. I will introduce her to my family, although they have already met her. We will all dine as a family, and afterwards, I’ll show her my room, and while there we might play out some of my teen fantasies. I’m already missing her.

When I walk into the office, I find Luther fidgeting in his chair and mom smoking. Something is wrong. I’ve been summoned here before when I do something wrong like scratch mom’s new Range Rover sport on a night out with my friends. I got into a lot of trouble growing up. Between Luther and I, I was the ‘problem’ child.

What’s wrong?” I ask.

Luther has his poker face on, but he cannot fool me.

Sit down, Danny,” Mom says.

I take a chair, and they say nothing for a while.

You know, suspense is my least favourite genre.” I look at my brother. “What’s this about?”

It’s about that pretty girl you have been seeing. What’s her name? Ah yes, Makena,” Mom says.

What about her?” I fiddle with my car keys.

When I saw her, I reckoned she looked familiar…really familiar.”

Shit, the first thought that comes to mind is that we were related somehow.

Mom slides me a black and white photograph from across the room. I frown as I pick up the picture. I looked at her and then at Luther, shocked.

I never forgot those eyes and that face,” Mom says.

I stare at a picture of Mwenega, the Fari-Fari leader, the man who murdered my father. This was the man I had killed in my dreams a thousand times.

After his arrest, I remember going to his sentencing with mom and Luther. I remember the smile on the man’s face as the high court judge gave him the death sentence.

I was young then, six years old, but I wished to grab him by the throat and bang him against the wall and pull at his thick afro.

What does Makena have to do with him?” I ask.

Mwenega had a wife and a little daughter, but after his arrest and sentencing, no one could trace where they both went.” Mom puts off her cigarette in her ashtray.

When I saw Makena’s pretty face the other day, it triggered something in me. You know I can’t forget faces, it’s a curse really. I asked Cain to get me everything he could about her. He brought me her birth certificate.”

Cain was her bodyguard by day and lover by night.

Look at her father’s name, Danny. Look at the initials. It turns out Mwenega’s wife ran with her daughter and settled in a little village in Embu. She changed her name and her daughter’s name. I have to say she has been clever, evading me for all these years.”

Mom produces document after document and dumps them before me. I hold them in my hands but do not see a thing.

What were the odds? Is this why her eyes pulled me in like that? And her hair was as thick as his.

My mind compared his mocking smile and her sweet smile.

It couldn’t be. People look the same all the time.

Makena is Mwenega’s daughter, Daniel,” Luther confirms. “I have verified it myself.”

I drop the papers on the office table as I stand. I limp out of the room.

They both stand.

Danny, let’s talk about this,” Mom says.

Don’t do anything stupid,” Luther adds.

Once inside my car, I lean my head against the steering wheel. Then I reverse and drive out like the devil is on my trail.
