Has your family ever driven along the freeway and noticed the abundant amount of litter lining the road? Or have you walked through the park only to be shocked at the food wrappers and other trash that fills the spaces between grass and trees? Realize the importance of keeping God’s world beautiful, and schedule a litter clean-up day for your family. Below are some suggestions for the day.
• Dress appropriately for the weather. Layer warm clothes for cold weather, and wear hats and sun protection in warm weather. Remember good shoes no matter what the season is. Long pants are necessary, especially in weedy areas where ticks, snakes, and poison ivy may lurk.
• Wear gloves.
• Instruct your children to clean up only paper items. Sadly, there are many other non-paper items that could harm those in your family. Do not try to clean up these things.
• Be sure an adult is with your children at all times.
• Bring plenty of garbage bags.
• Wash your hands thoroughly after you have completed the litter clean-up and again before eating.
It makes a huge difference to everyone to see a cleaner earth that God made. Encourage your family to be part of this project!
Up for Discussion
Why is it important to keep God’s earth clean? Where did you family decide to do this activity? A park? A playground? A walking-path area? Downtown? What else can you do to beautify our world for future generations? How does recycling play a role?
Think back to another time, such as 75 or 150 years ago. How was the litter problem different at that time than it is today?
Read Gen. 2:15. Why do you think God wants us to be good stewards of the amazing world He created?
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
