One of the ways in which God asks us to serve is with our time. Is there a ministry in your community that could use some of your family’s time? For example, the ministry known as “Vision Beyond Borders” seeks “to serve the worldwide church by providing the necessary tools and training for the local people to fulfill Christ’s ‘Great Commission’ in their own countries.”17 One of the ways volunteers can assist Vision Beyond Borders is to donate their time packing seeds and clothing that will be delivered to countries overseas. Something as easy as packing seed packets into sandwich bags can be accomplished with even a child’s help. Another task is cutting out flannelgraphs, which are used to communicate God’s Word to those in other countries.
Locate a local ministry that’s in need of your time. There are many just like Vision Beyond Borders who await a small donation of your family’s time. Ask your pastor for suggestions of organizations, or research some on the Internet. Encourage your family to donate some time to an organization, and watch as a difference is made!
Up for Discussion
What organization did your family choose to help? Why? How often is your family planning to serve for this ministry?
How do you think packing seeds in sandwich bags for those overseas can assist those in other countries? What might flannelgraphs be used for, and how can these activities spread the gospel?
Why is time just as important a donation or an even more important donation than money?
Read Rom. 10:15. How are feet “beautiful” when they’re used to share the gospel? Why and how should we be Jesus’ feet in sharing the Good News?
How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news!
