Homemade BREAD CRUMBS

Homemade bread crumbs have more flavor and better texture than those you buy at the grocery store. And it’s a great use for leftover bread. The bread crumbs will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Bread slices, fresh or slightly stale

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Lay out the bread slices in a single layer on a baking sheet and toast in the oven until golden, about 10 minutes. Set aside to cool, then tear into chunks.

Put the bread chunks in small batches in a food processor and pulse until the bread crumbs are the size you want.

Feel free to customize your bread crumbs with fresh or dried herbs, grated cheese, crushed red pepper flakes, minced garlic, or grated lemon zest.
