We think moonshine must be uniquely American. You never hear about moonshine in France or Germany. With my Kentucky roots, moonshine is definitely in my lexicon and on the menu. When we went out to buy the ’shine, we were informed that it’s a hot commodity now, a hip alcohol, on its way to number one.
One sip of my Appalachia Magic will make you break into a chorus of “America the Beautiful” and chants of “USA! USA!”
3 ounces moonshine
2 ounces apple cider
¼ ounce fresh lemon juice
6 dashes cinnamon bitters
1 whole star anise
Fill a cocktail shaker one-quarter of the way with ice. Add the moonshine, apple cider, lemon juice, and bitters. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into a mason jar–style rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with the star anise.
