Paul is recognized almost every day as the boss in Goodfellas and is the ultimate goodfella in life and in the movies. If you think about it, Paul is the only goodfella in the film. The other guys cheated on their friends and wives and were snitches. Paul was the beloved patriarch, who was loyal to his wife and told Henry Hill he had to go back to his wife. He also helped Henry out with money even after Henry got into the drug business. Big Paulie was good to all, except maybe those wise guys he whacked—but, hey, they had it coming!
The Goodfella cocktail is strong like Big Paulie: four shots of alcohol in a perfect blend. It is also a nod to Frank Sinatra who Paul says sang “perfectly.”
1 ounce Jack Daniel’s whiskey
1 ounce Scotch
1 ounce Cognac
½ ounce limoncello
Oversized ice cube
Lemon wedge, for garnish
Fill a cocktail shaker one-quarter full with ice. Add the Jack Daniel’s whiskey, Scotch, Cognac, and limoncello. Using a bar spoon, stir in a figure-8 motion for 5 seconds. Strain into a highball glass with one large ice cube. Garnish with the lemon wedge.
