Five Ways to Simulate the GED RLA Test Environment

  • Find a quiet place to work where you won’t be distracted or interrupted. Put away cellphones, music players, and all other electronic devices. They won't be permitted on test day.
  • Set a timer to count down from the total time allocated for each section of the test.
  • Don’t go to the next section of the test until the time allotted for the current section is up. If you finish early, check your work for that section only.
  • Give yourself exactly one ten-minute break before writing the Extended Response essay. Don’t take any other breaks.
  • Type your Extended Response essay instead of using pen and paper. Use only a text editor, such as Windows Notepad or TextEdit on a Mac, and disable the spell-checker and grammar-checker on your word processor.
