1748

Austria loses the territory of Silesia to Prussia following the War of the Austrian Succession.

Austria gains Polish-Lithuanian territories in the Partitions of Poland.

1815

Austria gains Venice and parts of northern Italy in the Congress of Vienna dismantling Napoleon’s empire.

1848

Rebellions lead to abolition of serfdom in Austria and Hungary.

1867

Dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary is established.

1919

Treaty of Versailles disbands Austria-Hungary, creates Czechoslovakia and awards former Austro-Hungarian territories to Poland, Ukraine, Romania, and Yugoslavia.
