For this book I found a number of reports and books particularly useful. First and foremost there are the annual Global Reports of UNAIDS, together with a series of other reports they publish. Both the WHO and the Global Fund also publish their own reports and most other countries publish figures on their latest positions. For example, in London there are reports from the Health Protection Agency; in the United States from the Centre for Disease Control; in India there is the National AIDS Control Organisation; and in Australia there is the Kirby Institute.

Among the books I would recommend are:

• William Dalrymple, City of Djinns: A Year in Delhi, (London: Flamingo, 1999)

• Peter Piot, No Time to Lose, 1st ed. (London: W.W. Norton and Company, 2012)

• Anna Reid, Borderland: A Journey through the History of Ukraine, (London: Basic Books, 2000)

• Craig Timberg and Daniel Halperin, Tinderbox: How the West Sparked the AIDS Epidemic and How the World Can Finally Overcome it, 1st ed. (London: Penguin Books, 2012)
