Robin D. G. Kelley is Professor of History and American Studies at the University of Southern California. His books include Race Rebels: Culture, Politics, and the Black Working Class and Freedom Dreams: The Black Radical Imagination. He has written on music for the New York Times, the Village Voice, Jazz Times, Lenox Avenue, The Nation, and other publications, and in 2005 was nominated for a Jazz Journalist Association Award. He lives with his family and his Baldwin baby grand in Los Angeles.
