‘Unchained Melody’ by the Righteous Brothers. I just like the lyrics and the tune. We were living in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria when I first heard it on the radio. I was hanging around with Bad Blood, the first outlaw club in Australia, and I was going to Allen’s milk bar in Sassafras. All the blokes and chicks from around would rock in there. It was just like Arnold’s in Happy Days. You had the booths and be drinking out of glass Coke bottles and the big heavy glasses for your milkshakes. You’d spin tunes on the juke box and have a burger. They were good times.
My next favourite song is ‘The Power of Love’ – the Jennifer Rush version, not Celine Dion’s. That whole you-are-my-lady-and-I-am-your-man thing was important to Donna and me when I was stuck in prison. The song became pretty special for us.
