The Desk
Your desk is Central Station in your office. It is where you go to do all of your work. You balance your checkbook here, you toil on the computer here, and you make phone calls here. All of those activities usually require a variety of accessories and/or related supplies – useful things that could eventually create a cluttered mess on your desk.
Granted, how your desk is arranged is a clear sign of your state of mind. Don’t be too hard on yourself if your desk is cluttered. It only means that you have a lot of good ideas and that you have been busy. Still, you can do something to get things more under constructive control, regardless of your genius.
“If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?" - Albert Einstein
Don’t feel bad about having a cluttered desk. Some of the most brilliant minds in the world struggled with the same problem. You can set yourself apart by being both a brilliant mind and an organized person. It can’t be that hard, right?
In fact, it is not. Use your desk for what it is made for – a sturdy work space and ample storage. If you
have some drawers built into your desk, use them. If not, purchase some baskets or crates instead. You might even have some that are not being used in other cluttered rooms in your house. It is best for you to try to reuse any items that you already have to help keep things from getting out of hand.
A cluttered desk is simply a sign that you are, perhaps, a highly intelligent person. Still, it could be a simple sign of laziness. Do not strive to create an empty desk, but instead try to develop an office that works for you and not against you.
