Chapter Sixteen

Being on the mountain tended to make Dylan stir-crazy for some reason, maybe a remnant of that teenage boy who couldn’t wait to see the wider world. Whenever he came to visit me, he was only okay being a homebody if a lot of sex was involved—not that I minded his appetite for me, but I was a girl perfectly happy to watch movies and read books next to each other, too. It was weird that he had an easier time doing those things at home in L.A.
So, I figured his wanting to go out was just that—out.
It surprised me he drove to a jeweler.
As a resort town, Big Bear had all kinds of tourist shops, but there was a custom jewelry guy, too, and this is where we stopped now.
“I already have an engagement ring,” I teased.
Dylan grinned. “But neither of us has wedding bands.”
We got out of the truck. “And you want something unique?”
“Not necessarily, but they have the best selection in town and here, we don’t have to worry about paparazzi spotting what we’re up to.” He laced his fingers with mine. “Okay?”
I nodded, smiling. “Another point for not living in L.A.”
He opened the door. “Do we need to make a pros and cons list?”
“Wouldn’t be a bad idea.”
“Hi, welcome!” an employee said from somewhere.
Like any, the store was full of glass cases.
“Do you want to match your ring?” Dylan asked me quietly.
“What kind do you want?” I whispered back.
“I don’t know, I’ve never worn one before.”
“Any ring?”
He shrugged. “Maybe for a photo shoot.”
“Oy…let’s find out your size.” I stepped away from the door in search of help.
Thankfully, where our knowledge lacked, the owner’s expertise shone.
