“Why, Danny boy, whatever are you up to now?”
“Just sit right there, my little prairie pea-plant. You’ll find out soon enough.”
Dead-Eye Dan Crowley dug his hand deep into his pocket and pulled out a gleaming gold band. He slid his white hat from his head and dropped to one knee in the dirt beside the slim figure of his sweet-heart, Miss Lavinia Pearl. Lavinia’s eyes grew as round as a pair of Texas flapjacks.
“Oh, Dan!” she cried. “I declare it’s the most perfect little piece of jewelry I ever did see!”
Dead-Eye Dan’s cheeks turned bright pink. “Lavinia Pearl, I’ve been aiming to lasso you for myself since the day I set eyes on you. You’re the one adventure I can’t quit. Will you marry me?”
Miss Lavinia Pearl threw her arms around the lawman’s brawny shoulders. “Why sure I will, you silly ole’ thing. Forever and always.”
