Time: 1 hour
Difficulty: Fancy a challenge
You Will Need
Patterned fabric
Plain fabric
Wire hanger
1. To make your pattern, trace around the top of the wire hanger and lengthen to about 30cm (12in). Add a 1cm (3⁄8in) seam allowance all around. This is the hanger cover pattern. To make the pocket pattern, fold over the top part of the hanger cover pattern to use the lower part only (about 20cm/8in deep).
2. Transfer the pattern pieces to your fabric. Cut two main hanger cover pieces from patterned fabric and two lining pieces from plain fabric. Cut one main pocket piece from patterned fabric and one lining from plain fabric.
3. Place the pocket pieces together with right sides facing and machine sew along the top edge. Turn through to the right side and press flat.
4. Place one of the main hanger cover pieces right side up on your work surface and lay the pocket on top with the lining facing down, taking care to align the raw edges at the bottom edge. Sew along the pocket sides and bottom edge. Measure 13cm (5in) in from the sides to mark the pocket divisions and machine stitch to make three pockets.
5. Place the hanger cover lining on top of the (pocket) front right sides facing, and machine sew along bottom edge only. Press; fold open along seam edge and press. Repeat with the remaining fabric pieces to make the hanger cover back. Pin the linings to the hanger cover pieces and sew around the top edges.
6. Place the lined back and front together, right sides facing, and sew along the top edge, leaving a 5cm (2in) gap. Turn right side out and press flat along the seams. Insert the hanger through the gap and hang up ready to use.
