Spooky Eyeballs

You can have so much fun with these knitted eyeballs – they are perfect for slipping into a ‘trick or treat’ bag for a scary surprise.

Time: 2 hours

Difficulty: Get stuck in

You will need

Set 3.5mm (US size 4) double-pointed needles

1 × 25g ball Patons Fab DK acrylic yarn cream

Toy filling

Red sewing thread

1.8cm (34in) diameter toy eye with plastic washer

1. Knit the eyeball following the pattern below:

Cast on 6sts.

Rnd 1: K6.

Work as i-cord as follows:

Slide sts to other end of needle without turning. Keeping gauge tight, pull working yarn across the back of the i-cord.

Rnd 2: (inc) [Kf&b] 6 times. 12sts

Rnd 3: Divide 12sts evenly over 3 dpns, 4sts on each needle. K.

With righ side facing and keeping the gauge fairly tight on the first round, work in the round as follows:

Rnd 4: (inc) [K1, kf&b] 6 times. 18sts

Rnds 5, 7, 9, 11: K.

Rnd 6: (inc) [K2, kf&b] 6 times. 24sts

Rnd 8: (inc) [K3, kf&b] 6 times. 30sts

Rnd 10: (inc) [K4, kf&b] 6 times. 36sts

Rnd 12: (dec) [K4, k2tog] 6 times. 30sts

Rnds 13, 15, 17, 19: K.

Rnd 14: (dec) [K3, k2tog] 6 times. 24sts

Rnd 16: (dec) [K2, k2tog] 6 times. 18sts

Rnd 18: (dec) [K1, k2tog] 6 times. 12sts

Fit in the toy eye and stuff with the toy filling.

Rnd 20: (dec) [K2tog] 6 times. 6sts

Cut yarn, thread end through the remaining 6sts, pull up tight and secure the end.

2. Sew a few lines through the yarn with the red thread to create the bloodshot effect.
