The Secret Passage

Lord Sekilan teleported into the desert, just north of the domed city. He could see the dome rising out of the ground like an upturned bowl shimmering in the sunlight. It meant little to him but Malkor had made it clear what would happen if he didn't find a way inside.

'How do I use this thing?' Sekilan said to Murk who was standing beside him.

Murk was the last of the clerics who had been loyal to Lord Hades. He was slow minded with heavy limbs. His face was as flat as his chest with a nose that had spread out after repeated beatings. The cleric barked his response, something about holding the crystal and feeling for the entrance.

Sekilan squeezed it in his hand, feeling nothing. He gazed towards the Dome Shield expecting to see a sparkling light or some other sign of what he was looking for, but the sand blew into his face and he could see nothing at all.

Murk barked again, gesturing for him to hand over the crystal. Sekilan did so, not because he lacked the talent but because the clerics excelled in their own base abilities. Such tasks were beneath him anyway.

Murk took the crystal and started walking at an angle towards the Dome Shield. Sekilan followed at a distance until the cleric paused and reached down, sticking his hand into the sand. It looked like any other sand dune to Sekilan but the cleric obviously thought there was something special about it. When he pulled his hand free it contained a second crystal identical to the first.

Bringing the two together, he watched as a blue mist formed around them. The mist expanded when he placed them on the ground, becoming an entrance to a deep, dark tunnel.

Sekilan nodded as he walked towards the opening. 'Wait here,' he said. 'Keep the entrance open until I return.'
