Chapter 46
Fatima’s funeral was January the tenth. She had large amounts of heroin in her system. She’d been shot in the back of the head but drowned to death. Just like Kevin’s murder it was unsolved.
The service was held at Sista Patterson’s house. I felt bad that I’d used Faye’s funeral for a meeting place, but Spin was not coming to the funeral nor had anyone followed me.
Vicky sat next to me and I’esha and Silva as they explained exactly what they needed me to do.
In two weeks I would receive all the paperwork and evidence that had been illegally obtained against my husband and go with it along with my best friend and lawyer to the F.B.I. The story was that I knew my husband was into some shady shit but mostly I kept out of his business affairs. After years of snooping I’d come across some very incriminating evidence. The reason I was coming forward was because-I’esha told me to, so that-I wasn’t implemented in his crimes and most of all because he cheated on me. Yes, the old woman scorned act. After that the investigations would begin and I was acting as if nothing was going on. In the process of the investigations I’d come up with the papers and other evidence on him. I was told I’d be in to see a grand jury by the end of February. If everything went smoothly that was.
Vick had way more questions than I did. Most of the time I stayed silent and played with my heart.
After the burial I called King and told him about the meeting. He told me he was near if I needed him, all I needed to do was call.
When I got home Spin was there with D-loc and Rod. D-loc was still sniffin’ his life away and I was thinking of other ways to put more glass in his coke. Rod, oh, I was gone find a way to deal with him. I still needed revenge. I walked into his office and spoke to everyone.
“Babe, sit down.” I sat on the desk acting like I wasn’t concerned. “We’ve been talkin’ and I’ve got a lot of inside information. It’s gettin’ hot and I done been here long enough up on top.” I lifted my eyebrow. “Remember a means?” What was the nigga sayin’? “Tell me,” he pulled out some envelops. “Where do you want to spend the rest of our lives? I’m thinking the Virgin’s.”
I was looking at about a dozen plane tickets to various destinations. What got me was they were all dated for the twenty fifth.
“Our late anniversary gift.”
My mouth dropped open. He was trying to get out the game. Fuck!
“You can think about it. But, start packing,” he told me and I was dismissed.
What the fuck? I thought taking the tickets to our room. I decided to make a detour by Will’s mausoleum. I was expecting his dead body to still be there since I’d heard nothing about it. I opened the door and saw nothing at all. No body, no candles. The room was clean. Had Spin found his body and cleaned up? Had he found the body and not told me?
“What are you doing?”
I jumped. I turned to see Tamekia. I looked around for someone, grabbed her arm and pulled her inside the room.
“We have a problem, he’s planning to skip country.”
Tamekia’s mouth dropped as I showed her the tickets. She grabbed her phone and began dialing. I did the same. I couldn’t leave. Not just because I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life with him either. There was finding out what happened to my family, King and I couldn’t forget about Vicky. Worst case I could always take Vicky with me of course.
The phone rang and Vicky’s line beeped after each ring, she was not answering. I was forwarded to voicemail.
“Yeah, right here,” Tamekia was saying when my phone rang.
“Vick?”
“Whaz good?”
“Why you ain’t answering?”
“I was in the shower.”
I knew she was lying, her line was beeping which meant she was on the other line. I let it go and told her about Spin trying to leave. I was getting ready to tell her about the tickets when the door opened.
“What y’all doing?” Spin asked.
