Introduction

For me, choosing what to write about all comes down to Joseph Campbell’s famous bit of advice to “follow your bliss.” In this case, as a longtime student and practitioner of energy work and the magical arts, I discovered a blissful hankering to deepen my metaphysical repertoire in certain ways. I was inspired to get in the habit of a daily elemental attunement meditation and to assemble an invisible toolbox of well-practiced bits of visualization and spellwork that could be whipped out anytime, anyplace, for any purpose, with zero physical tools or ingredients. I felt like honing and clarifying the more internal and energetic aspects of my magical practice.

Why was this such a blissful idea to me? Perhaps my favorite thing about living the magical life is the sense of personal power it bestows. Acting on the wisdom that you are essentially a pattern of energy that is inextricably interwoven with every other pattern of energy—including trees, the sky, other humans and animals, planets, rocks, and every other single thing that exists—you begin to truly feel and know that you are an important and beloved aspect of holistic oneness. Becoming conscious of the vibrations within and around you, and learning to shape and channel them according to your will, you begin to attune your life to the frequency of your truest and most authentic desires. All of this, as you might imagine or know firsthand, feels amazingly wonderful. Yes, challenges still arise, but seen in the context of meaningful interconnection and divinely fueled personal power, they feel less like the end of the world and more like the beginning of a fascinating new level of understanding.

After living this way for some time, you begin to know in an experiential way that the power on which you draw for your magical and metaphysical practices is not contained in external ingredients such as crystals, oracle cards, or herbs (although these things are great), but rather in you: it’s all about your clear intention and belief in your success. What’s more, because you are interwoven with all other patterns of energy, if you’re familiar with them, you can call on them whether or not they are physically present in your space. Beginning to put this understanding into practice through working what I call “holistic energy magic” feels incredibly liberating and fulfilling. This way, no matter where you are, what you’re doing, or who you’re with, you can perform a bona fide and discreet magical ritual or metaphysical act to create positive change according to your authentic desire.

Clearly, my bliss did not steer me wrong. Through working with the principles in this book (some of which were already in my repertoire, some of which weren’t), I have discovered a renewed sense of inspiration and empowerment. I sincerely hope that you have a similar experience.

Thank you so much for taking this journey with me.

Love and blessings,

Tess
