ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Simon Cooper grew up on a farm in Co. Donegal, Ireland in a family that valued creativity and learning. In his teens, he moved to England and went on to university there, achieving a BA in philosophy. At the same time, he started writing.
After wandering through a variety of occupations and stretching his writing muscles in his spare time, he started a gardening business, which he still runs. While mowing, planting and pruning, he has time to think about character, plot and setting.
Simon currently lives in Northern Ireland with his wife and son.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR
Cassandra Shaffer is a native of Arizona and proud to be a desert rat. Soon after graduating from Mountain View High School, she began attending the Art Institute of Phoenix where she is currently majoring in media arts and animation. All her life she has enjoyed drawing and doing creative things of all kinds, and becoming an artist seemed like the instinctive thing to do. After graduating from college, she plans to enter the field of animation or become an illustrator.
She strives to convey strong emotions and believable characters in her work. She takes inspiration from everyday people and situations, but has a strong love for fantasy. It is this lifelong fascination with stretching the imagination that led her to enter the Illustrators of the Future Contest.
