Ben and Barry carried Edmund out of the burning hotel. Edmund saw Bella, Greg and Logan – they were all looking at the hotel. The twins gently put Edmund down on the grass, then everyone watched the hotel in silence.
They heard windows shattering and they saw shards of glass flying towards the ground. Edmund thought that the sight was wonderful, Dorian had burnt up and the hotel was on its way of becoming no more than ashes.
His face started to hurt way more, it was a heavy throbbing pain all over his face and ankle. He needed to get to a hospital pronto. He looked up at Greg and thought that Greg needed a hospital just as much as he did.
The smoke that came from the hotel, he looked around the cloudy sky and wondered if it was going to rain. Would the rain snuff out the flames? he wondered. Something strange was happening, parts of the fire started to die out, and the smoke was thinning. What was happening? Why was the fire dying? A burst of laughter came from inside the hotel, it was Dorian’s laughter. Was he not dead? He could not leave the hotel, could he?
A fog started to appear on the cold ground, and a weak icy bris came from the open hotel door. The thick mist smothered the hotel entrance and the silhouette of a tall man wearing a top hat became visible.
Dorian was alive, and he was coming for them. “It’s rude to stab your superior, Edmund. You among all people should know that.” Laughed Dorian.
The twins grabbed a hold of Edmund and all of them made a run for it. Logan was the quickest one, quickly followed by Greg and Bella. “Relax, Eddy,” said Barry.
“Yeah, let us do that hard work,” said Ben.
They ran down the mountain quickly, but Dorian Black was right behind them, and he was shouting, “Edmund…Edmund…Edmund…” The sound was unsettling, Edmund thought that it could creep out the toughest man in the world.
“I see the ladder!” shouted Barry and both the twins picked up the pace. Edmund could see the massive cloud with the tall man coming towards them. Would crossing the ladder even save them, would anything save them?
The icy wind had grown stronger, Edmund’s T-shirt was blowing up and down. Edmund could see the twins’ hair dancing along.
Edmund heard someone climbing over the ladder, the twins laid him down and told him to get over right before both of them ran up the ladder.
Dorian was closing, and Edmund’s ankle would not allow him to stand up. Edmund grabbed a hold of the wooden ladder and started pulling himself upwards. His arm crossed over to the warm summer side, then his other arm became warm. The twins grabbed a hold of his arms and began pulling to get him over. Something grabbed his bad ankle; it was Dorian and Dorian began twisting it.
“Dear Edmund, you cannot leave me now. We have so much to do, so many lives to take.” Dorian began pulling which threw the twins off their balance. Edmund screamed in pain as he tried to fight his way loose.
Light shot out of someone’s flashlight and Dorian lost his grip. The twins pulled Edmund on the right side of the corner and then they watched to see if they were safe.
They could see the outline of Dorian Black; they could see him walk as close to them as he could. “You will come back, all of you…most of you anyway. It can take years, but I got nothing but time. You will return to my home and then I will claim your lives, one by one. I shall show you your worst nightmares,” said Dorian right before Greg used his flashlight to make him retrieve deeper into the fog.
It did not take long before the mist had vanished, hopefully for good.
