A couple of days had passed, Edmund and Greg had spent time in a hospital. They had gotten plenty of injections, they had been bandaged and stitched up. Edmund was walking with crutches which he found to be very annoying.
They were walking in a large beautiful forest full of greenery. The sun was shining, and the air was clean and easy to breathe. Birds were tweeting, and they saw a couple of rabbits running between bushes. They heard the water running not far from where they were, the water was where they were heading.
Edmund was glad that the hotel was long behind him, but he was worried that Dorian was right. What if they did return to the hotel? But why would they return to a place that could kill them? It did not make sense, did Dorian Black know the future or, at least, the future of the hotel?
The two of them were walking in silence, Edmund did not know what to say. He wanted nothing to do with Greg, he wanted nothing to do with anyone who reminded him of the hotel – they were toxic. He wanted to get this over with and return back to Oxford, he wanted to get back to eating takeaway with his real friends. He wanted to get back to playing the guitar. With the face he had gotten, he certainly would fit in with the punk environment. He was afraid, however, that he didn’t have a face for the theatre, maybe, he could play a bad guy in an action film, but he certainly couldn’t play Romeo.
Edmund saw a river; it was below an old wooden bridge. It looked like something out of a fairy-tale. They looked at each other and Greg said, “This is perfect.” They walked by the riverside. Greg took out the silver necklace as well as the golden ring, Edmund reached down into his pocket and took out a golden necklace, two silver rings and a silver ring with a big emerald in the middle. He gave them to Greg who presided by going into the river and burying them while Edmund walked up to the wooden bridge and looked down at the river.
Greg walked up the bridge and the two of them looked down at the river waiting to see if something happened.
Six people appeared in the river, five of which Edmund had never seen, but he recognised Christopher Black who looked up at him. A young girl with a bloody white dress looked up at Greg and began thanking him. Christopher began talking as well, “Thank you, Edmund. You fought my brother and won, or at least you escaped. You took me with you which I am grateful for…do me a favour and don’t return to the hotel, it is best to quit while you are ahead.”
Christopher took the young girl’s hand and started walking off with the four other people. They waved back at them before they vanished.
The End?
