(Korean Words/Kpop Terms)

Aigoo - An exclamation used in various situations.

Aish - A sound Koreans make when annoyed.

Ajeossi - Middle-aged man

Ajumma - Middle-aged woman

All-Kill - When a song or album  is no. 1 on all music charts.

Baboya - Idiot, Fool, Dumb, Stupid

Bias - A favorite member in a group.

Bias Wrecker - A member that distracts you from your bias and makes you question whether your bias is really your bias.

Comeback - When a group returns with new music.

Dakjuk - Chicken and rice porridge.

Dongsaeng - Someone younger

Fancafe - A forum that Kpop groups and their labels use it to post updates. Fans can also leave comments there.

Fansign - An event where fans get to meet idols in person and are able to speak with them and get autographs.

Geonbae - Korean version of cheers when you drink. It literally translates to “empty glass” or “bottom’s up”.

Gochugaru - Korean chili pepper

Gochujang - Red chili paste

Halmeoni - A grandmother or elderly woman.

Hi Touch - An event where idols stand on one side of a table with their hand up and palm up, fans then line up and touch hands with them.

Hoobae - A title used when referring to anyone who entered your academic or work environment after you. (It has nothing to do with age but rather experience.)

Hwaiting! - A word used as support or encouragement.

Hyung - What a younger male calls an older male, friend or brother.

Hyungnim - The honorable term for hyung.

Idol - A Kpop artist

Leader - Usually the oldest member in a group (but not always). Their role is typically to motivate and take care of other members and to represent them in various ways.

Maknae - The youngest member in a group.

Multifandom - Belonging to multiple fandoms.

Noona - What a younger female calls an older female, friend or sister.

Noraebang - “Norae” means “sing” and “Bang” means “room”. In other words, it is a room where people sing karaoke.

Omo - Oh my! / Oh my gosh!

Oppa - What a younger female calls an older male, can be a brother or a friend but is often used for boyfriends.

Palli palli - Hurry, hurry / Faster, faster

Saekki - A curse word meaning son of a bitch.

Samgyeopsal - Grilled pork belly

Sasaeng - An obsessive fan that stalks and/or invades the privacy of an idol.

Ship - Two Kpop idols that fans want together as a couple or think they make a cute couple.

Soju - A type of Korean alcohol.

Soondae - Blood sausage

Sunbae - A honorific title used when referring to anyone who entered your academic or work environment before you. (It has nothing to do with age but rather experience.)

Trainee - Someone who is aspiring to be an idol and is training to be one.

Unnie - What a younger female calls an older female, friend or sister.

Visual - The member considered to be the most handsome in a group.

Vlive - A video streaming application where Kpop idols broadcast live videos.
