You Can't Play God

A Week and a Half Later:

It had only taken Yvette nine days to pull Lamesha’s wedding together. The ceremony had been performed at Lamesha’s church, God’s House of Deliverance, and the wedding had been absolutely gorgeous.

Since they’d gotten married so quickly, they hadn’t had time to plan a real honeymoon. But Donovan had booked them a suite for the weekend in the Four Seasons. At a rate of seven hundred and fifty dollars per night, their hotel accommodations were really nice.

Completely naked, Lamesha laid back in her husband’s arms and sighed. Being made love to by Donovan had been everything she’d imagined it would be and then some. Her man had taken the time to make sure she’d been pleased before he’d chased a release of his own. That’s real love right there, she thought to herself and sighed. Not that fake stuff that Calvin and I had. I’m glad he stopped coming to God’s House of Deliverance and I hope he never comes back.

Then she thought about how Calvin had called her and apologized about how he’d tried to seduce her. He’d explained that it had been all Sharita’s idea. He’d also told her that by him coming to church like he’d been doing, God had somehow entered his heart for real. He’d said that he didn’t feel right coming to Lamesha’s church anymore, so he’d be looking for himself a new church home. The kicker was that he’d also confessed to being in love with Sharita. He’d said that he was going to keep praying for her...praying that she’d turn from her wicked ways.

Lamesha knew she’d never be friends with Sharita again, but she’d forgiven her ex-bestie. Being a woman of faith, she understood that it would be bad for her own soul if she didn’t do that.

Donovan tightened his arm around her midsection. “What’s wrong, babe? I didn’t please you?”

Lamesha was quick with her answer. “Oh, no.” She pushed all thoughts about the drama with Sharita and Calvin from her mind and allowed a sexy grin to make its way onto her lips. “I was plenty pleased alright. Just thinking about how grateful I am to have you in my life.”

He placed a soft, loving kiss on his wife’s forehead. “I’m grateful to have you, too, Mrs. Walker.” Then he smiled. “I want to tell you a secret.”

She turned around with a questioningly look on her face. “What?”

“We were destined to be together...from that first night that we met.”

Lamesha giggled. “Uh, you mean the night you doped me up then fell asleep with me in your arms?”

He shook his head. “Nope. That wasn’t the first night we met.”

“Yes, it was.”

Donovan had known from the day that Lamesha had walked into his office that he'd met her before. It was no way he could forget a face as lovely as hers. He'd finally remembered last night where they'd met. He placed a soft kiss on her temple and leaned into her ear. “We're gonna make it, beautiful...we're gonna make it.”

Lamesha didn't remember a lot from the night of her car accident, but she did remember a stranger  — one with beautiful ebony eyes that sparkled like diamonds — carrying her away from her burning car and whispering that exact phrase into her ear. She knitted her eyebrows together and smiled in disbelief. “You saved me that night...it was you. You're the Good Samaritan who risked his life for me.”

He held out his hand that still contained the scar from when he’d gotten cut trying to free her from her seat belt. Then he smiled down at her and placed another kiss on her temple. “I intend to be there every time you need saving Lamesha, for the rest of my life.”
