Vacated Body: An occurrence that happens when an individual undergoes astral projection and leaves the physical body in a corpselike state. Usually, when any form of astral travel takes place, the person’s spirit is still connected to the physical body by an invisible umbilical cord. In this instance, the soul will detach from the cord completely, leaving the body empty. People who experience this are in danger of something called a “walk-in,” where another wandering spirit might occupy their vacant body.

Vacillating: A swaying or vibrating sensation during meditation. This is a term used for the movement of the soul within the body, which can take place just before astral projection. (Oprah, 2019.)

Valhalla: The Norse afterlife governed by the god Odin. A place where the war heroes, led by the Valkyries, go upon death to dwell in the great hall in Asgard.

Valkyries: In Norse folklore, the Valkyries are a large group of female figures who select individuals in a battle to either live or die. These spiritual entities are believed to govern all wars and conflicts.

Vampire

Vampire: A legendary, fanged, soulless being who feeds off the fundamental life force of others. In folklore, these undead creatures would terrorize neighborhoods and even cause death by sucking the blood from individuals. Stories about vampires were initially told in Eastern Europe and described ordinary people who were infected then cursed with being a vampire when bitten. In some stories, the vampire can shape-shift into bats, wolves, and even rats. They are sensitive to light and can only be killed by driving a wooden stake through their heart. Other accounts say that one can ward off these beings by using garlic, mirrors, and the Christian cross.

Vardoger: A person with the ability to astrally project themselves to a place before the physical body arrives.

Vasus: High-ranking spirit helpers who reside in the angelic kingdom. Their purpose is to create absolute perfection in all things and offer direction to individuals who are encountering harmful karmic exercises.

Vegetation Magic: Rituals performed to raise the vibration of plants and fauna or any areas that are densely populated with trees. These ceremonies are also conducted to encourage rainfall and to help crops grow more successfully.

Veil: (See also Samhain.) An invisible energy field that separates one realm or dimension from the next. Neopagans believe the veil that separates the spirit world from the earth plane lifts on All Hallows’ Eve, making communication with the spirit world possible. Some gifted people can see through these veils and catch a glimpse of nature spirits, such as fairies and wood nymphs.

Vibration: Derives from the Latin word vibrationis. Energy or power that oscillates or shifts steadily around an object, inanimate or otherwise. This term is often used in the esoteric field to describe unseen vibrations of energy that occur during psychic work and healing. Vibrational changes can often be associated with moods and the state of health and well-being of each person. For example, if a healer or psychic is feeling ill or unhappy, it is likely that their vibration is lower, so their healing or psychic abilities would not be as effective. A higher vibration is more favorable, and there are many ways to elevate vibration.

Every person possesses their natural vibration, which is dependent on their soul’s development. An individual who is selfish or spiteful will possess a lower vibration than one who is kind and caring, so working on one’s personality flaws will help raise natural vibration. Another way to change the energies around one’s body or place is to play loud cheerful songs and music or engage in rhythmic applauding and stamping. Other gentler ways are to focus intently on one’s thoughts and actions, choose foods carefully, detox the body, and drink lots of water. Meditation and relaxation are just some of the things a person can try. An individual must select activities that fulfill them in their daily lives and be benevolent and kind to others. By doing this and by inviting spirituality into their life, one can raise their vibration.

Vibrational Note: Every living and nonliving thing on the planet emanates an unheard vibrational frequency.

Violet Flame: A spiritual fire. A combination of the blue flame of power and the pink flame of infinite love, blending into a violet color. The flame associates itself with the archangels Metatron, Zadkiel, St. Germain, and Jesus, and by performing a deep meditation, a person can invoke one of these divine beings to help cleanse their aura. Visualizing a single violet flame when meditating is said to clear away negativity and can limit disruptive thought patterns. Throughout the meditation, one focuses intensely on their breathing while calling upon their chosen deities, angels, or guides to assist them in receiving the violet flame. This technique is achieved by connecting through Mother Earth with breath work to reach the ultimate god. Mantras are also recited daily, invoking otherworldly beings to bring healing and restoration. (Prophet, 2017.)

Vision: To see in one’s mind’s eye a picture or event that has either taken place or is predicted for the future. Visions can come spontaneously without warning or can be reached during meditation or a quiet time of reflection. They can also appear in dream form, foretelling a future event or even giving the individual a message from the spirit world.

Visionary: A psychic person who receives information from the spirit world through pictures and images in front of the eyes. The psychic can also imagine a future event that later comes to pass. Baba Vanga (1911–1996) was a blind prophetess who allegedly predicted many major world events, such as September 11, the sinking of the submarine Kursk, and Stalin’s death. Another notable visionary was Edgar Casey (1877–1945), described as “the sleeping prophet,” who foretold countless events, such as the deaths of Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy. (Hicks, 2018, and Sugrue, 1997.)

Vision of Oneself: To clairvoyantly see an image of one’s own astral self either in a sleep state or during meditation. This can also happen when a person is at the end of their life, and the astral self looks down upon the physical body.

Visitation: To visually encounter one’s guide or otherworldly beings while in the dream state. Often, guides will visit a person when something significant is about to happen or they have a message they want to convey. They can also drop in during times of illness when an individual might need strength or healing. The term visitation is also used by those people who encounter aliens.

Visualization: To consciously manifest thoughts or images of a desired event by using meditation or trance. Some believe that a thought is just as powerful as an action, and when a person focuses on a particular desire or outcome, it can happen. Visualized healing is an example. Picturing a sick individual who miraculously becomes well is a positive exercise. People who practice this kind of mind control are called “visualizers.” (Lorrison, 2014.)

Vitruvian Man

Vitruvian Man: In 1490, renowned artist and thinker Leonardo da Vinci published a drawing and paper based on the writings of an ancient Roman named Vitruvius. The pen-and-ink anatomical drawing showed two superimposed images of a man in a circle and a square; this became known as Vitruvian Man.

The study noted what specific proportions of the human body were viewed as ideal. The foot is one-sixth the total height of the body. The forearm is a quarter of the height, as is the width of the chest. The human head is one-eighth the total height.

In Leonardo’s drawing, the center point of the body, when placed in a square, is the groin, but when seen in a circle, the body’s center is the navel.

In the ancient world, proportions were considered very important, and Vitruvius’s theories were extended into architecture.

Voodoo Doll: A magical effigy that originates from the Caribbean faith of Voodooism. The doll is created as a representation of an individual, and rituals are performed by way of sticking pins into the materials of the doll to cause pain, destruction, or healing. Like witchcraft, Voodooism was viewed for centuries as a dark art, but many who practice this faith argue that they do not perform their ceremonies to hinder, but to send healing to another and to communicate with the deceased.
