The purpose of this book is to intrigue our readers and urge them to ask, “What if?”
The things we characterize in this book are indeed strange and, at times, come across as quite incredible; of course, skeptics will argue that we cannot prove the topics herein, leaving our depictions wide open to supposition. In a sense, this is true, because if there were evidence of all the unsolved happenings over time, the mysterious accounts that we have written about in this book would not be classed as paranormal. It is the case that some of the events described here are apocryphal or anecdotal stories, but to many of the people who experienced them, they are very real indeed. It is a truism that seeing is believing, but an ever-increasing number of unexplained events, both past and present, are now coming to light. In ancient times, people would have explained an airplane in the sky as being a paranormal encounter, yet today, our technology is becoming so highly advanced that it is a commonplace occurrence.
Many of the subjects that we have written about inside these pages depend on legend and old fables, and at times these stories may conflict. For this, we apologize ahead of time and can only say that we have endeavored to document as many accounts as we were able to research. We are sure that there are numerous variations to some folklore traditions and accounts that might contain slight inaccuracies; however, these fables cannot be ruled out altogether. Surely, if we open our minds wider, we can rationalize the fact that there is no smoke without fire!
We have been asked that if some of these events did indeed happen, then why is it that more information isn’t available, giving proof either way? One could say we are “conspiracy theorists” for believing that there are many things the authorities are not telling us.
In the past, others have challenged government cover-ups, one example being that of Winston Churchill, the prime minister of Great Britain. A declassified wartime government document was delivered to him, reporting that a Royal Air Force pilot had encountered a UFO. Churchill immediately declared that it was to be kept top secret for the next sixty years. His thinking was that if it somehow was revealed to general society, there would be a mass panic and the loss of confidence in religion.
As Shakespeare wrote, “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” We believe this to be true and hope our readers enjoy this journey of discovery into the paranormal.
Regarding psychic phenomenon and paranormal occurrences, new terms or phrasing are being coined all the time. When writing a dictionary of this nature, the mass of information is mind-blowing, and because of this, we could not include every single topic or reference within the given word count. We have composed this book intending to make it an interesting read, with the hope to expand the knowledge of the world and bring the unexplained to the forefront.
Much of the information contained in this book has been researched via the World Wide Web, television documentaries, YouTube, and Wikipedia. If you are interested in a given subject, please do research it and see where it leads. There is a wealth of information, photographs, and forums online covering these individual subjects.
Whether it is believable or not, just listen to your inner truth, because, after all, we are dealing with the paranormal!
To have faith is to believe
In what you cannot see
And what others cannot conceive
Your reward is to see, what you believe.
