You can’t hold on to much in the van, but I have this jar full of memories.
I’VE BEEN OUT OF THE NAVY FOR A YEAR. My husband, Lovell, and I were living in Los Angeles, but it was so expensive. We decided to build out and live in the van Lovell was leasing for work.
I didn’t know there were other people who did this, but my husband told me there was a whole community. We noticed there weren’t many black people doing it, so we wanted to share our life through our YouTube channel, “Novel Kulture.”
I gave myself three months. I thought, if I can do three months, I can do six. If I can do six, I can do nine. We’re planning to live this way for two years.
You can’t hold on to much in the van, but I have this jar full of memories. When something good happens, I write it down on a slip of paper and put it in the jar. At the end of the year, I’ll take them all out and read them.
